II. Identifying characteristics and fraud tactics

Subjects impersonating officials or employees of State management agencies or network operators call and inform that the user's phone number will be blocked in both directions for 2 hours for reasons such as "fines have not been paid". ", "wrong subscriber information".

After requesting information, they will continue to guide users through the next steps such as: performing the syntax to change name, change owner of phone number information, syntax to redirect calls...

Once they have gained the right to receive calls, the subjects will log in to the victim's e-wallet application, social network account... and declare that they have forgotten the login password, and select the feature to receive calls with OTP code notification.

From there, they easily take over social network accounts, control and appropriate money in wallets, and bank accounts linked to e-wallets.

III. How to prevent property appropriation

To best prevent against this scam, you should proactively check information through the carrier's tools and proactively standardize information according to regulations and instructions from the carrier. Network operators will NOT suddenly lock customers' subscriptions but will follow the correct order of state management agencies from continuously notifying via text message to interrupting use and upgrading from temporary lock 1 afternoon to temporary 2-way lock. And 1 month after being locked in both directions, that subscription was revoked.

  • ARE NOT Follow the instructions when receiving a call from an unfamiliar phone number
