In the survey for\u00a0Asia 2023 scam report<\/a>, GASA and Gogolook conducted a survey of \u201ccommon scam channels\u201d in 11 countries in the Asian region. Respondents were asked to select which of these mediums they had encountered fraudulent information in the past year. This data helps pinpoint areas of concentrated fraud activity in different regions and informs local strategies to prevent fraud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Looking at the survey results, \u201cphone calls\u201d and \u201cSMS\u201d continue to be the most frequently exploited fraud channels across Asia, occupying the top two positions in 8 out of 11 regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among these regions, Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Vietnam had over 75% of their population exposed to scam calls, while the Philippines, South Korea and Indonesia had over 75% of their population exposed to scam SMS messages. Other channels such as \u201cinstant messaging apps\u201d, \u201csocial media\u201d and \u201cemail\u201d also followed closely. Hong Kong, Singapore and Indonesia each had over 50% of their population exposed to scams on instant messaging apps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Taiwan, Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam, China and Indonesia, more than 25% of the population have encountered social media scams. Japan, South Korea and the Philippines had 25% of people receiving phishing emails.
