In Taiwan, the most common fraud methods include bill payment fraud, shopping fraud, investment fraud, and impersonation of government/bank officials.

According to Taiwan’s Criminal Investigation Bureau, although investment scams ranked fourth, they accounted for 47% of fraud-related financial losses last year, indicating a significant average financial loss in this context. In Japan, third place went to “friend and family scams,” in which scammers impersonate family members, demanding temporary loans, collateral, or ransoms. This is due to the growing vulnerability of older people in Japan’s aging society, making it easier for scammers to target them.
