Ngo Minh Hieu: Raising consumer awareness to defeat scammers

Ngo Minh Hieu, also known as HieuPC, is a founding member of Anti-Phishing (CLD), currently a technical expert at the National Cyber Security Monitoring Center (NCSC). As a key member of the Labor Club, he contributed to creating Asia 2023 scam report, he hopes that this report will help Raise consumer awareness to beat scammers.

As a non-profit organization specializing in anti-fraud initiatives, Chongluadao played a key role in conducting the survey in Vietnam featured in GASA & Gogoloook's 2023 Asia Fraud Report. Chongluadao's dedication to anti-fraud has been pivotal in collecting insightful data from over 1000 respondents in Vietnam, shedding light on the increasing trend of scams, especially in Vietnam. Vietnam, like other key countries, has seen increased phishing activity, with 63.9% respondents confident in identifying scams. This trust is determined by the presence of anti-phishing education and the level of phishing development. On the other hand, overconfidence can lead to greater vulnerability, emphasizing the importance of skepticism and constant verification

Phone calls and SMS are still the most commonly used avenues for fraud, but digital platforms such as social networks and instant messaging apps are becoming important methods of fraud. . According to the survey, Facebook and WhatsApp are the top platforms involved in phishing threats, highlighting the importance of targeted digital surveillance. From a companies' perspective, the study's findings highlight the need to invest in fraud prevention, especially in digital awareness initiatives and
consumer awareness. Collaboration between government, business and public interest groups is critical to creating robust anti-fraud mechanisms and technologies that protect both consumers and businesses.

The report is a call to action to raise public awareness, develop policies and deploy advanced anti-phishing solutions in Vietnam and other Asian countries to combat complex threats and increasingly increasing.
