Fraud has become a global problem today, but do you know what makes you easily become a victim of scammers? In the survey for Asia 2023 scam report, GASA and Gogolook conducted a survey of "the main reasons why you can become a victim of scammers" in 11 Asian countries. Let's Anti-Phishing (CLD) learn more about this study in more detail.

To better understand whether people's psychology and immediate reactions when faced with scammers may be what causes them to fall into such traps, GASA and Gogolook have identified some of the reasons popular. These include:

  • Not recognizing scams
  • Responding too quickly to scammers' requests
  • Lack of knowledge to recognize fraud
  • Attracted by incentives
  • Choose to take risks despite the uncertainty about the scam
  • Too trusting of friends or family members

These factors were statistically analyzed through surveys of fraud victims in 11 regions across Asia. In all these regions, “failure to recognize fraudulent activities is the main reason why victims fall into the hands of fraudsters.”

In Japan and Malaysia, the proportion of people admitting that they were victims due to “lack of adequate knowledge to detect fraud” is relatively large, highlighting the need to increase educational efforts by relevant agencies. to prevent fraud. Scammers cleverly use human emotions like “panic” and “greed” to create their stories.

According to the survey, more than 20% residents of Thailand, Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam and Indonesia said they were scammed because they were "tempted by attractive offers". Common scenarios include purchasing heavily discounted items on e-commerce platforms and then receiving counterfeit or completely different items.
